SHETLAND’S broadcasting scene has descended into utter turmoil after Eunice Henderson announced she was quitting BBC Radio Shetland and taking her beloved ‘Shetland’s Larder’ programme to SIBC.
Eunice’s abrupt decision to abandon Pitt Lane will come as a shock to loyal listeners of the winter late programme, which has featured culinary specialities such as sassermaet clatch.
Shetland College’s professor of gastronomy-related radio broadcasting Stewart Bannock said the “seismic impact” of Eunice quitting was likely to rival that of Mary Berry’s Great British Bake-Off signing up with Channel 4.
It is understood her decision to turn to SIBC comes after station owner Ian Anderson promised that, unlike tight-fisted BBC boss John Johnston, he would take care of the grocery bill.
The news puts Eunice’s cookery show co-host Jane Moncrieff in a seriously awkward position, as she is employed full time by the BBC. She was unavailable for comment and is believed to be considering her options.
